ABOUT THE BOOK
Jean-Pierre Cuoni, also known as ‘Papou’, was the founder, president and former chairman of EFG Private Bank, one of today’s most influential Swiss private banks in the world. With about CHF 131.2 billion AUM EFG Private Bank offers private banking and asset management services and is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
EFG Private Bank operates in 40 locations worldwide, with more than 3,151 employees. Born in 1937 in Lucern, Cuoni, fondly referred as a ‘Private Banking Giant’ by the industry, has been characterized as an extremely influential individual with a rare charisma and empathy towards everyone he encountered.
At age 57, Cuoni was the first ever to transform and re-invent the Swiss private banking world, as he decided to leave the tradi- tional ‘way of doing things’ to create a new business model never seen before in the country.
Together with his trusted American right hand, Lawrence ‘Lonnie’ Howell, and with the financial help of the Greek oil and shipping billionaire Spiros Latsis, EFG Private Bank was a dream that became reality in 1995.
After 35 hard-working years in banking, Cuoni wanted to create a new bank of his own – something that would imbibe his vision. Referred often as the father of the term ‘Private Banking’, Cuoni was sometimes criticised but often adored by those who knew him.
